How this 26-year-old built a $100m robotics company
Built out of loneliness during Melbourne's COVID lockdowns, Grace Brown's companion robot Abi has grown into Andromeda, a $100 million robotics company changing aged care.
At an aged care home a couple of months ago, one of the residents asked his best friend, Abi, to play his wife’s favourite music from back when they were young.
Hearing the music, the man’s wife, who suffers from dementia, stood up and started to dance. When their wedding song came on, he joined his wife while Abi danced on the side.
“And he was just crying because he said he hadn’t danced with her for over 20 years, and then at the end, he went over to Abi and just said, ‘Thank you, I really appreciate that’.”
Abi is a robot, and Grace Brown – who told this story on the latest episode of the How I Made It podcast – is a 26-year-old from Brisbane who built Abi during Melbourne’s long COVID-19 lockdowns.
